INVESCO 18 HOLE SINGLES

We held our first 18 hole singles competition of the year this weekend. Whilst the weather was nice and calm on Saturday, Sunday was a completely different day, with strong cold gales dominating. This did not blow John Kenneally (13) off course as on Sunday morning he strolled to a 3 shot victory with a magnificent round of 42 points. John turned with 21 points and kept his round together on the back nine with another 21 points. Despite a double on index 1, he recovered well having no less than 7 pars in total, superbly backed up with birdies on the 7th, 11th, and 14th to cap off a very nice mornings work.

Second place went to Conna’s Pat Lane (20) with a fine score of 39 points. Despite a slow start, he steadied the ship well and had 3 pars around the turn to get his round back on track. Pat played fine steady golf from there to home adding in more pars on the 15th and 17th and clinched second place on a count back on the last 3.

Third place went to the ever smiling Liam O’Keeffe (12), again with a fine score of 39 points. Liam’s round was consistency personified, notching up 6 pars along the way and also birdied the difficult 6th and 12th holes for good measure. All these lads will be pleased to start the summer season on a good note. For the rest, well, there is a long summer of golf ahead.

Due to the lack of growth and harsh weather we are currently using placing on the fairway but play as it lies in the rough. Not been able to put ones hands on the ball in the rough means for trickier playing conditions but also makes it closer to proper golf as we know it. Hopefully, as the year progresses we will be back to full summer rules so please keep and eye on the noticeboard for more details.

OPEN FOURBALL

Next weekend we are holding our first open fourball competition for many years. Players play in groups of four in teams of two with players playing off ¾ of their allowed handicap. Each pair will take the best stableford points score at the hole in what is sure to be a very competitive competition. The fourball format is a great way to play golf and next weekend’s competition has been put on the calendar at the request of members so please come out and support this event.

VICE CAPTAIN'S PRIZE

The vice captain’s prize, kindly presented by Mr Peter Whelan, will take place on Saturday 20th and Sunday, 21st April. The time sheet is posted on the notice board so make sure to get your name down early to ensure you get your preferred tee time. The competition will be an initial 18 hole stableford played on either Saturday or Sunday morning. From this initial 18 holes, the top 21 players plus ties will go forward to play in a nine hole shoot out on Sunday afternoon from 2.30 onwards. It has been many years since we had a nine hole playoff so it is sure to attract lots of interest from players and supporters alike. Our vice captain, Peter, is a very hard working member in the club and his involvement and commitment is top class. Added to this he does some tireless work on the competitions committee, an onerous task in itself. So we look forward to seeing you out supporting Peter on his weekend in 2 weeks time. The presentation of prizes will be directly after the 9 hole playoff so it is sure to be a Sunday afternoon not to be missed.

TUESDAY BACON

Our Tuesday bacon started off last week with great numbers turning out to participate in our fun yet very competitive 3 ball competition. We are current playing 9 holes each week which will extend to 11 when the light improves later in the year. This competition is a great way for new members to get to know other members, learn a few tips from your playing partners, have a bit of fun and if you bring home the bacon all the better. So come along on a Tuesday at 5.30 and get your golf swing in gear for the summer season.
