Nature lover, environmentalist and writer, Jim Lysaght, launched his new book ‘A Walk On The Wild Side’ in Fermoy Community Youth Centre on Wednesday, 27th November. The publication is a collection of selected writings from his weekly column in The Avondhu, spanning almost 40 years.

Family, friends and supporters attended what was a very cordial, enjoyable and sometimes emotional event. Keynote speakers included his daughter, Sharon Lysaght, lifelong friend Gerry Keating, former editor of The Avondhu, Liam Howard and film maker, Breeda Morgan. Gerry described Jim as ‘an incredible friend’, who was passionate about all aspects of nature.

“Jim has been an incredible friend to me and I really value this friendship, which goes all the way back to the 1950s. I have special memories of Jim fishing on the Funcheon and waiting for the ‘evening rise’, we both share a love of nature and all things outdoors,” he said.
