As the soothing tones of James Kilbane drifted out from the altar of Mitchelstown Parish Church, the concert in aid of Mitchelstown Town Hall was a pre-Christmas delight for those in attendance.

The Church set the tone wonderfully for the concert, as many of James' songs would have a strong link to faith, life, love and family. The concert was very well attended and supported with around 250 people in the church on Friday night for the event.

Upon welcoming James Kilbane and the audience to the concert, Canon Michael Fitzgerald thanked Dairygold Coop who sponsored the advertising, The Avondhu, C103 and Paddy Ryan for promoting the event, the Presentation School Secondary School choir under conductor Edel McEniry and acting principal Lorraine O'Keeffe, and Mary Sheehan from Mitchelstown Flower Club who did the wonderful arrangement on the night.

The choir proved to be a wonderful addition to the night, as they sang harmoniously for the large crowd and it also gave them an insight into where their singing might take them some day.

Throughout the night, James sang a number of well known hits and given the time of year, he also indulged in a few festive numbers. His powerful and emotive voice rang out across the church, while the musical accompaniment was complimentary without overpowering the vocals.

All of the songs had a deeper meaning and a message for people to relate to, while James also made the performance that bit more personal by telling a little story or anecdote between each number, so that the audience went along the journey of each song with him.

Proceeds from the night will go towards Mitchelstown Town Hall and the committee thanked everyone who supported the concert, The Avondhu for their coverage in the lead up to it, the Canon for giving them the Church as the venue which set the scene beautifully for the concert and James Kilbane for delivering such a wonderful show.
