In a short spell of just two years a CBS Mitchelstown student has gone from watching his snooker idle Ronnie O’Sullivan on TV to representing Ireland in the World Under 16 Snooker Championships in St Petersburg, Russia.

15 year-old Jack Newman picked up a snooker cue for the first time two years ago but has already made headlines at his local snooker club in Fermoy.

After entering his first tournament in Carlow as a 13 year-old the career of the 3rd year student has gone from strength to strength culminating with the honour of representing his country in the World Championships with five other team mates in Russia.
