The essential replacement of 2.4km of asbestos pipes in Kildorrery that are causing major water pressure and supply problems for the people of the area, has not been included in Irish Water’s Capital Investment Plan 2014-2016.
Despite Cork County Council making a successful application for funding to the Department of Environment in October of last year, maintenance and repair works did not commence as expected in early 2014. In July it was heard that work would not commence for upwards of eight months, although funding had been ring-fenced and site investigation works had been completed.
This week, the November Northern Committee meeting of Cork County Council heard that Irish Water do not deem the issue to be significant enough for any work to be done before 2017.
