The Irish Chamber Orchestra joins forces with dancer Colin Dunne for a fantastic performance of vibrant new music, classic favourites and a stunning new dance when they visit Friars’ Gate on Thursday, 11th July at 8pm.

Colin Dunne is a leading figure in the world of traditional Irish dance. Best known internationally for his performances and choreography in Riverdance and Dancing on Dangerous Ground, Colin has been forging a new creative path since his time as artist-in-residence at University of Limerick where he completed an MA in contemporary dance.

Katherine Hunka directs the ICO’s Feet First tour which offers a kaleidoscopic range of music combining old with new sounds. A visually stunning dance and performance treat, inspired by Icelandic poet Rumi, sees dancer Colin Dunne direct this latest commission from his feet. Estonian pop-star-turned-composer Erkki-Sven Tüür’s 'Action - Passion – Illusion' is a stunning work with warm string tones. 'Action' resembles a Bartokian march; 'Passion' is elegiac and begins slowly, becoming faster before reaching an electifying conclusion; 'Illusion' is hypnotic and its articulation is breath-taking.

Dvořák's Op. 54 waltzes offer a pair of charming, three-minute bonbons that inspired his student, Josef Suk. With echoes of Dvorák, Suk’s romantic Serenade for Strings Op. 6, remains one of his best-loved works. The movements are shining gems and the Irish Chamber Orchestra makes them sparkle all the more.
