International success for region’s racquetballers

North Cork underscored its reputation as a hotbed of racquetball activity with two of its representatives (Johnny O’Keeney and Darragh O’Donoghue) playing leading roles in securing victory for Ireland (best international team) at the recent 19th Senior European Racquetball Championships in The Hague. 

The event gave Fermoy native, Johnny O’Keeney his biggest success to date following victory in the ultra-competitive, men’s singles event.

A tough draw saw him pitted against the best racquetballers in Holland and Germany, however, playing up to an exceptional standard, Johnny came through in great style, defeating Arne Schmitz (Germany) 15-8, 15-4 in the final.
