International award for Mitchelstown youth worker

Mitchelstown native Ailbe Coleman, has been crowned the 2015 Irish Enterprising Educator by the Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE).

Ailbe Coleman, a volunteer with Mitchelstown Youth Café has been crowned the 2015 Irish Enterprising Educator by the Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE).

The Mitchelstown native, a youth worker with Ballincollig Garda Youth Diversion Project received his award at the Mastercard-sponsored 2015 Global Showcase in New York City on March 25th.

The Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship inspires young people from low-income communities to find their paths to success. They work closely with educators in high-need schools to re-engage students in learning, introduce them to business concepts, and open up their possibilities for the future.

This event attended by over 600 people celebrated the accomplishments of students and teachers from countries around the world such as China, Australia, India, Germany, the United Kingdom and the USA.

Speaking to The Avondhu, Ailbe said he was 'absolutely delighted with the award' and described the NFTE as a very good programme.

"New York was fantastic and I will treasure the trophy."

Frank Gillespie, chairperson of Mitchelstown Youth Café congratulated Ailbe saying that it was a wonderful honour for him to receive which was 'well deserved'.
