The Irish rugby team's 6 Nations' win at the weekend brightened up the spirits no end. Regardless of what sport we admire or even if sport holds no interest whatsoever for us, we cannot but be impressed when a national team rises to such great heights.
Men like these are great role models who inspire our children to become involved in sport, immersing themselves in an active and healthy lifestyle. Thankfully, this is far removed from the morons who chose to deface the playground equipment in Fermoy on Tuesday night, putting the facility out of bounds temporarily for the many children and their parents who frequent it on a daily basis.
It is difficult to comprehend why anyone would wish to do this - but then, why do people litter our streets and countryside by idly discarding their litter without casting a thought about their actions or the inconvenience they place on others?
Such actions will not deter those who work for the betterment of society however. Time perhaps to call again on all good civic-minded people to rally around and help out in your own area. Show that you are prepared to lead by example - your active presence and input can only encourage others to take up the cudgel, join in the revolution and make life better for ourselves and our fellow man.
