Injured walker rescued by helicopter from Knockmealdows

Members of the South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association responded to the alarm which was raised at 1.40pm.

A male walker who sustained leg injuries was removed by helicopter from the Knockmealdown mountains on Sunday afternoon. The man was with a walking group when he fell and injured his leg.

The incident occurred two kilometres from Bay Lough car park. The walking group split into two with one remaining with the injured man until the rescue services arrived.

Members of the South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association responded to the alarm which was raised at 1.40pm. They remained at the scene to assist the helicopter crew who managed to airlift the man off the mountain.

He was removed to Waterford Regional Hospital where he was treated for lower leg injuries.
