Fermoy Karate Club
The IJKA Munster Open Shotokan Karate Championships took place last weekend at the NMCI in Ringaskiddy and the event was a huge success, attracting students from all the top clubs and associations in Munster.
The association featured well among the medals and our own Alison Hennessy took the bronze in her kumite category. A big thanks to Joe Hunter and all the gang in Passage West Karate Club for hosting what was a wonderfully run competition and most enjoyable event.
The next IJKA competition will be the national open championships, which will take place at the Loreto Sports Complex Fermoy on Sunday, May 8th next. Further details will be posted nearer to the event.
The club would like to wish every success to the IJKA Ireland team who will be travelling to Nuremburg, Germany to compete at the SKDUN European Open Karate Championships next month. Squad training for the competition continues this weekend.
Last week’s student of the week was Ciaran Browne. A delighted Ciaran was presented with his medal and certificate after last Tuesday evening’s junior beginners class. Well done and keep up the good work.
We would like to thank all the children and parents who walked with the club in the Fermoy St. Patrick’s Day parade.
Thanks to all who helped out with last week’s training programme. Training times are as follows every Tuesday and Thursday all year round, junior beginners 7pm to 8pm, advanced juniors and teenagers 8pm to 9pm, and adults all grades 9pm to 10.30pm. We have beginners lessons ongoing every week at all our classes. Drop into Fermoy Leisure Centre any time and have a look around… your first lesson is free!
