After 43 years, Danny and Hannah Ryan are retiring from the music business and handing the Danny Ryan Music Shop in Tipperary town down to the next generation.
Over the past four decades, the iconic musically themed fresco painted across the whole building has been a local attraction in Tipperary for visitors and musicians alike and the shop is even listed as an attraction to visit in Lonely Planet.
The shop was originally opened in 1971 stocking all kinds of musical instruments and in 1979, the Ryan School of Music began to cater for young musicians in the area.
Now, the shop is being handed down to Danny and Hannah's son Michael John Ryan, his wife Siobhan and their daughter Eileen Ryan Dillon. They are looking forward to continuing the legacy that has been forged at 20 Bank Place, Tipperary Town.
While he is stepping down from the shop, Danny could never leave music behind him - it is in his blood. Now, he will be enjoying his retirement and continuing as organist in St Michael's Church and he will continue to write new musical compositions, short stories and poetry.
Michael John (MA Dip CSM) is a well known violinist and music teacher, as well as being the director of the County Tipperary Ryan Youth Orchestra, while his wife Siobhan has years of experience in business behind her. They have already increased the teaching facilities with additional violin teachers for the 2014 season.
"Due to an increase in demand for music lessons in the Munster area, we have now expanded this part of the business and Eileen Ryan Dillon (B.A., Dip. Mus.) has set up a new music studio at 3 Abbey Street," they explained.
In her new studio, Eileen will continue to teach her existing piano and guitar students and the new premises will also give her the space to expand her teaching and take on more students.
Michael John and his family wish Danny and Hannah a happy and enjoyable retirement and they wish to thank all the patrons of Danny Ryan Music Shop, and the parents, guardians and students from the Ryan School of Music for their support and custom over the years.
"We hope to continue supplying all of your musical needs for many years to come," he said.
