The Hot Club Swing Night will light a fire under readers for 2024 commencing on Friday, 26th January for an unmissable night of jazz and blues music, starring legends Mo O’Connor, Pat Barrett and Pedro Nieto.
Mo O’Connor has played a wide variety of music over the last 50 years, fifteen of those in the USA in various genres. He has performed all over Ireland and further afield in venues from Brazil to Russia and most of Europe.
This concert will be an opportunity to perform with his old friend’s fellow guitarist, Pedro Nieto and double bassist, Pat Barrett. Pat is a tutor from Millstreet at the Cork Academy of Music, an arranger, recording artist and an in-demand bass player, playing with many groups around the Cork music scene.
Pedro is a self-taught guitarist who dedicated much time to listening to different musical genres, rock-a-billy, country, blues and jazz. He formed the ‘The Swing Kings’ mixing Blues, Gypsy Jazz , Bluegrass and Cajun stylings, playing for several years in Spain, before eventually travelling in 2000 for The Cork Jazz Festival. Today Pedro is gigging with a swing band, ‘The Monkey Swingers’ and a group called ‘Merlot’. He is currently studying the saxophone and constantly challenging himself to learn, improve and innovate.
This concert will bring together the soulful vibes of jazz, rock, bluegrass and Spanish guitar influences into an unmissable event, so banish away any New Year’s blues and the winter chill in our newly heated venue. Remember to bring your own bottle and enjoy The Hot Swing Club Night. Doors open at 7.30pm, event starts at 8pm.
