Some Over The Hill Cycling Club members at the Fort 2 Fort cycle.

It was remiss of me last week not to mention that we have a team participating in this year’s Race Around Ireland. This will be the fourth time in the last five years that a team will represent the club in this gruelling event and there is an added twist this year in that the team has been selected solely from the over 50s contingent in the club.

Declan Brady, Pat O’Callaghan, Sean O’Flynn and Dave Revins will proudly represent the club in September and are already busy training, best of luck to the lads, hope to see many of the club out supporting them during their training rides.

Our Wednesday night turbo training comes to an end this week, this was another excellent winter of training, huge thanks to Nigel Carroll for organizing and motivating the lads over the winter, he was tough but everyone who participated thought it was well worth it!

The official training for the 32 County Challenge started on Saturday with a 140km trek west of Cork city, taking in Cloghduv, Carrigadrohid, Copeen and Macroom before turning for home. Great numbers out embarking on this challenge, well done to all.

Sunday saw a large contingent from the club on the Fort to Fort charity cycle between Trabolgan and Crosshaven, it was great to see some of the Level 3 cyclists stepping up the distance and pushing themselves, it really shows how quickly people can progress when they get out and cycle with a group.

It’s the time of year to try it out, beginner spins are leaving from Watergrasshill every Sunday morning at 9, everyone welcome.
