Crystal Ocean, the joint highest-rated racehorse in the world, is set to find a new home at The Beeches stud near Tallow in West Waterford.

The five-year-old former champion which won the Prince of Wales’ Stakes at Ascot in June partnered by jockey Frankie Dettori, has been acquired by Coolmore and will stand at The Beeches.

A British thoroughbred sired by Irish champion Sea the Stars, Crystal Ocean enjoyed seven Group race wins in his four-year racing career and never finished outside the first three in any of his 17 starts.

Now the horse has an eagerly anticipated stud career ahead of him after his retirement from racing due to a leg injury in September.

“He was the highest-rated horse in the world, so we have very high hopes indeed for him,” Robert McCarthy of The Beeches said.

“We’ve been lucky enough to have champion sire Flemensfirth with us here for the past few years and we’re hoping that Crystal Ocean can replace him over time.”
