Healthy Made Delicious, a new food business offering guilt free desserts and breakfast bars made with fresh, natural ingredients, opened in the Market Square in Fermoy on Saturday.

Owned and operated by Marie O’Mahony, the food stall will be open every Saturday in the square from 10.30am.

Speaking to The Avondhu, Marie said her own experiences with food in the past led her down the road to opening a food business with a focus on quality produce in her home town. “I just completely changed the way I ate a few years ago. I lost a good bit of weight and the more I looked into it, the food I was eating was completely wrong for me.

“I suffered from chronic hay fever from the age of 15 and I got completely rid of it just by changing the way I ate, just cutting out dairy, meat, anything animal based products basically. I’m very conscious of what my kids eat, so I found it hard to go into the supermarkets even to pick up a cake for them. Everything is covered in dairy, sugar, processed flours. So, I started making them for years at home and I said I might as well give this a go.”

All the products on sale in the Healthy Made Delicious range are one 100% vegan, cooked without any processed oils and free from any refined sugars. The staple ingredients in the desserts and bars are fruits, nuts, seeds, oats and vegetables, with syrup or dates used as natural sweeteners. Marie said she was pleased with the reaction from the public during her first day last Saturday.

“It went really well, there was a good buzz around the place. A lot of people were saying there’s nowhere in the town to get stuff like this. I suppose people are just sick of the supermarkets, it’s all the same kind of stuff you get in those places.”
