Haul of medals for local athletes at European Transplant Sports Championships

Locals laid claim to a haul of medals at the recent European Transplant Sports Championships, bringing home golds, silvers and bronze medals last week from the games in Lisbon, Portugal.

Wednesday, July 24 saw Mallow man Mick O’Shea competing in the 5K cycling time trial on what was described as a ‘scorching’ day, where he placed second.

That same day, a team of 12 golfers hit the greens in the heat and braved a challenging hilly course. Gold medals were presented to Doneraile man Hugh Nolan and Mallow’s Pat O’Sullivan, while Rob Merrigan, who is a Limerick man living in Watergrasshill, and Mitchelstown’s Michael Kiely, took the silver medals in their events.
