Rathcormac’s historic hanging trees are to remain in place until at least the third week of January, as agreed at a recent meeting of the Fermoy Municipal District.
Cork County Council Senior Engineer, Brendan O’Gorman, confirmed that the remaining two trees do not pose an immediate risk to health and safety.
A report on the trees, issued to elected members, outlined that one of the trees which has recently been removed by the council, was severely damaged due to rot, however, the remaining two trees do not pose a risk.
“Those hanging trees have huge historical and heritage value in Rathcormac and we’re aware of that story. We’ve been looking after these trees indefinitely over the last decade,” Mr O’Gorman said, as he outlined the duty of care and maintenance the council take in relation to the Hanging Trees.
