On Sunday last Glenroe Family Fun Day took place at the Glenroe GAA Grounds. Chairman Dave McCarthy welcomed all to the event and he thanked all that were part of this voluntary labour project.

The Glenroe community walk was officially opened by Glenroe and Limerick senior hurler, Stephen Walsh with Munster and Ireland rugby player Tommy O'Donnell doing the honours by officially opening the outdoor gym.

This year the committee decided to bring forward the family fun day and are delighted with the outcome.

Under-age matches were played from 12 noon, visiting teams included Blackrock, Garryspillane and Kildorrery and Stephen Walsh and Richie McCarthy brought along the Munster Cup.

The 6k Run/Walk was won by ..........(mens) and Mary O’Brien (ladies), full details of times etc., available on Facebook (Glenroe HarvestFestival).

The Dog Show had many entries and the winners were (small dog) T O’Leary with his Spitz, (large dog) D J Sheehy with Scooter, (best mannered) Damien Fitzgerald with his Labrador and overall best of show was won by T O'Leary.

Great fun was had at the sheep racing, the winning owners were Ann Casey, Liam Walsh, Sean Flynn, Mary Walsh and Diarmuid McCarthy. Jimmy Barry Murphy and Edel Moloney won the wife carrying competition, Brian Hennessy won the spot kick; 'most suitably dressed lady' was won by Aine O’Brien from Ballylanders and 'most suitably dressed gent' was Tommy O’Donnell (Snr) from Cahir; roll the bale competition was won by Declan O’Connell and the wellington throwing was won by Patsy McDonnell. Finally the 'dump the balls' competition winner of €500 was Donal Hayes (c/o Gaelic Grounds Limerick).

The organisers would like to thank everyone who supported the day and all who helped in any way. Proceeds from the day will go towards the new Glenroe community walk and outdoor gym. This is a wonderful facility for Glenroe and indeed the surrounding areas. The outdoor gym is the first of its kind in South Limerick and the walk, which is .42miles in length, is floodlit. Many of the users of the walk comment on how safe the facility are as the roads today can be dangerous for walkers.
