Great return from Fermoy Karate Club at Connaught Open

Fermoy Karate Club would like to congratulate Shane Hurley on his fantastic result from the Connaught Open.

Fermoy Karate Club would like to congratulate Shane Hurley on his fantastic achievement winning gold in the U16 kata and kumite disciplines and also gold in the U19 kata category last weekend at the Connaught Open in Galway.

Shane is an exceptional athlete and never fails to disappoint. Well done also to his brother Brian Hurley and Amy Galvin who each brought home a silver and bronze medal from the tournament and to the students from the IJKA Passage West and Kaizan Karate Clubs.

A big thank you to Sensei Brendan O'Flaherty and all at the West Karate Club in Galway for a great competition.

The next big outing will be the IJKA Munster Open Karate competiton which will take place on April 12th at The National Maritime College of Ireland in Ringaskiddy. Thanks to sensei Joe Hunter for organising the event. If you intend competing now is the time to practice your kata and kumite skills. Further details will be posted in The Avondhu nearer to the tournament.

Last week’s junior student of the week was Brian Corrigan. A delighted Brian was presented with his medal and certificate after last Thursdays junior beginner class.

There will be squad training in the dojo next Sunday at 11am and instructions will be notified by group text.

On Monday last Shihan Brian and Sensei David O'Donovan held a special class for Enable Ireland students in Little Island which was very well received. Thanks to all who helped out with last weeks training programme.

TRAINING

Training times are as follows: junior beginners 7pm to 8pm, advanced juniors and teenagers 8pm to 9pm, and adults all grades 9pm to 10.30pm every Tuesday and Thursday. We have beginners’ classes ongoing every week at all our sessions so why not drop in to Fermoy Leisure Centre and have a go - your first lesson is free. Fermoy Karate Club is a totally inclusive sports club and welcomes students with special abilities and mobility issues and our dojo is the headquarters for the Irish Wheelchair Karate Federation.
