The death has occurred of Glenville’s Dermot Fenton, 17 years after he was rushed to London to undergo a heart and lung transplant. Dermot was 24-years-old at the time, and, being a cystic fibrosis sufferer, required constant care.
In November 1998, after a 10 month wait, he was informed that an organ had become available, with the caveat that he had to travel from Cork to Harefield Hospital in Middlesex within three hours. Dermot made the journey on time thanks to the provision of the Government jet.
