Glanworth’s All-Ireland cycling champion

Saturday, August 29th was a special day for Glanworth’s Orla Desmond, when she secured victory in the U16 All-Ireland National Road Race Championship in Co Mayo.

Saturday, August 29th was a special day for 15 year old cyclist Orla Desmond from Glanworth when she beat off stiff competition to secure victory in the U16 All-Ireland National Road Race Championship which was held in Westport, Co Mayo.

Speaking to The Avondhu, her father Niall said that his daughter, who attends Presentation Convent in Mitchelstown, is trilled with the win and has gone from strength in the sport since becoming a member of Galtee Wheelers Cycling Club a little over 3 years ago.

“For the win in Mayo she received a national jersey and a gold medal. She has won a few races but this is the biggest to date ..."
