The party season isn't over as was evident from the recent get together for senior citizens in Cahir House Hotel.

Initiated by members of An Garda Siochana, the event is in its 15th year and shows no sign of waning.

While the men and women in blue are to the fore in organising the party, they received great help from a variety of groups who are not afraid to get stuck in and help out. Among the helpers were representatives from Cahir Fire Brigade, South Tipperary Search & Rescue, Cahir's Men Shed, Cahir Civil Defence, Cahir Community Alert, Cahir Text Alert, pupils from Colaiste Dun Iascaigh, Cahir and Cahir Scouts (7th Tipperary).

In his welcoming address, Sergeant Brendan Franklin thanked all the aforementioned along with sponsors Dolan's SuperValu and Cahir Country Meats. Sgt Franklin went on to acknowledge the role of hotel staff, his colleagues in An Garda Siochana and everyone who contributed either financially or practically to the party.

Sgt Franklin's superior, Chief Superintendent Catherine Kehoe, who has overall responsibility for the south Tipperary area, added her good wishes. In her contribution, Chief Supt Kehoe spoke about the importance of community spirit and community engagement and acknowledged the excellent working relationship that exists between South Tipperary residents and the gardai.

Other senior ranking gardai in attendance included Inspector Eddie Golden and Sgt Carol O'Leary. Also to the forefront in co-ordinating the party were retired members of the force, Peter Butler and Pascal O'Dwyer along with community activist Billy Coffey, who is director of Cahir Text Alert.

There was a great spread of food and drink and entertainment came in the shape of musicians, singers and dancers (Ryan School of Dancing). A special mention must go the the recently formed Cahir Men's Shed Band who gave a superb performance. There was a mountain of spot prizes given away, with the bulk of patrons going home with something.

The event was a real team effort and greatly appreciated by everyone present.
