Losing a loved one is one of the hardest things in life, but a Tipperary family who are still only coming to terms with their own recent loss are organising a fundraiser in Galbally for a syringe driver for a local hospice, to help make those last days for other patients that bit more bearable.

Bridie O'Halloran, originally from Galbally, had battled with cancer three times over the past eight years, but on January 11, 2014, she had no fight left and sadly passed away. Bridie had only just turned 49 a month before she passed away.

The mother of three spent her final hours in Cluain Arann Nursing Home in Tipperary, where they have two palliative care bedrooms, but only one syringe driver. A syringe driver is a small portable pump, that can be used to give a patient a continuous dose of painkillers.

AMBITIOUS TARGET

Bridie's daughter, Mags explained that the syringe driver meant that her mother didn't suffer, as she was kept pain free while life slipped away from her. As a tribute to Bridie, her family have organised A Night for Bridie, with the aim of raising €2,100 for another syringe driver for Cluain Arann Nursing Home.

The event takes place on Saturday, April 26, in O'Connell's Bar, Galtee House, Galbally at 8pm with music from Tommy O'Neill and some fantastic raffle prizes up for grabs. Tickets are €5 and all support would be greatly appreciated. Her family are hoping that people will come out and support the fundraiser for this worthy cause.
