This year's Cork Summer Show will be 'moving into a new stratosphere' according to the shows creative designer Peter Kelly 'Franc'.
As part of a unique twist on the show, which takes place in Curraheen from June 13-15, Franc randomly selected ten primary schools from across Cork to take part in a 'Paint a Sheep' competition as part of the 'Experience Fest' aspect of the Cork Summer Show and Fermoy's Gaelscoil de hIde were one of the lucky ten.
Franc explained that this is just one of the many ways in which he is helping the show to evolve and it also gives school children from all over the city and county the opportunity to be part of the show.
Each school has been given a blank canvas in the form of a white acrylic fibre glass sheep and they will have until June 4 to paint and decorate it in any way they wish. The ten sheep will then come together to be part of 'Franc's Flock', a striking centre piece display throughout the 'Experience Fest' Cork Summer Show at Curraheen Village.
The more creative the students can be the better, as on Saturday, June 14, on day two of the show, Franc and Hector O’hEochagáin will judge the winner.
The show will combine food, music, culture and agriculture with music from Hermitage Green and Jack L among others, products from more than 100 artisan producers, tips and hints from celebrity chefs, an exciting 'Best Dressed at the Fest' competition to be judged by Hector and a number of horse, cattle and pony events and attractions.
Prices for the show have also been kept down to make it affordable and accessible for all, with kids under the age of 12 going free and tickets for adults for just €15 a day or a family ticket (two adults and two children aged 12-18) for €45 while OAP tickets are available for €13.
"I really want it to be a family fun event, where people of any age can come along, eat, drink, be merry and celebrate all things Irish," Franc explained.
