The defacement of the newly installed street furniture on Fermoy's Ashe Quay during the last few days doesn't bear thinking about. It is understandable that the people of the town should feel outraged at such an attack on public property.

At a time when Fermoy could boast of the sheer beauty of the Ashe Quay area having been laid out with beautiful seating, railings and walkways, it defies belief that anyone would show such blatant contempt for the authorities, their friends and the wider community of Fermoy.

The town of Fermoy has enjoyed a good record when it comes to this kind of anti-social behaviour and every effort must be made by each one of us to ensure it remains that way. An attack on public property such as we have seen here, is an attack on each and every one of us, therefore the need to be alert to ensure this kind of behaviour is outlawed.

If somebody knows those responsible, we would ask you to impress upon them the sheer futility of their actions. Hopefully they will desist from such behaviour in the future.
