Further survey of works at Knockananig in ‘the coming weeks’

An expert All Reservoirs Panel Engineer (ARPE) is to carry out a further survey of Knockananig Reservoir and dam in the coming weeks to determine if works already undertaken by Cork County Council is sufficient to address’risks identified’ in relation to growth bounding the facility.

Recently, a number of trees were felled at the location due to concerns that they may cause damage to the integrity of the structure. At the time, the works were met with a strong reaction from groups and individuals who regularly use the popular scenic amenity, who outlined their upset at the impact such works have on nature and habitat and also queried the necessity for felling the mature trees.

The Avondhu has unsuccessfully queried the council as to the number of complaints received.
