A number of meetings relating to Fermoy weir were held in the Grand Hotel Fermoy on Tuesday morning between Minister Sean Kyne and TDs, councillors and stakeholders in what was Kyne’s last official role as Communications, Climate Action and Environment minister.
At the meeting, Minister Kyne clarified that the weir cannot be repaired as a single project pointing out that a new fish passage must also be incorporated.
“There seemed to be some confusion whether or not the weir could be repaired as a standalone project but these (the weir repair and the new fish pass) are both required in order to comply with the EU habitats directive,” said Minister Kyne.
The Minister, whose portfolio changed this week to Fine Gael chief whip and Minister for Irish Language, Gaeltacht and The Islands, asked Cork County Council to provide him with an official confirmation …
