As a knock-on result of the deterioration of the weir, the Fermoy Regatta due to be held on June 30 and the Great Blackwater Swim due to be held on July 4, have both been cancelled for this year.
Both announcements came over the bank holiday weekend with deep regret from the organisers.
Paul Kavanagh, Regatta Secretary issued a full statement on behalf of Fermoy Rowing Club saying the Regatta Committee have had no option but to officially cancel the upcoming annual event.
