Bylaws for Fermoy town park are to be displayed for the benefit of the public, it was decided at the recent meeting of Fermoy Town Council.

It was originally suggested by Cllr Olive Corcoran that a notice be posted at the entrance to the park, notifying dog owners that pets must be kept on leads. She had a motion to that effect before the meeting. She said dogs being allowed to wander and foul around the park is a big problem.

Cllr Tadhg O’Donovan however, was of the view that all park bylaws should be signposted. Cllr Pa O’Driscoll backed Cllr Corcoran, saying the dog lead one needed to be signposted separately, as people wouldn’t always read all the way down through the bylaws.

Cllr O’Donovan was adamant however and proposed an amendment to Cllr Corcoran’s motion, which was adopted. He then pointed out that, as the addendum was carried, the motion by Cllr Corcoran was lost.

That provoked an angry response from her, the last of several heated exchanges during the meeting between the two as it led to Mayor Michael Hanley bringing the meeting to an abrupt end.
