Fermoy Mayor, Michael Hanley is proposing to have a site beside the wall at St Colman’s College cleaned up. At the meeting of the joint policing committee in the town last week, he asked Garda Superintendent Michael Comyns if he had an opinion on the subject and if he would fear that, if it was cleaned up, it would become a site for neer-do-wells to congregate.
VIGILANCE NEEDED
The Superintendent said it could present similar problems to the Loreto walk but that, with some patrolling by the Gardai, it should be ok.
“The more areas in town like that the better,” he said, adding: “As long as it doesn’t turn into a drinking den and we won’t let that happen.”
