When discussing bye-laws for the pool/town park playground area at the recent monthly meeting of Fermoy Town Council, Mayor Olive Corcoran told her colleagues she had a problem with the use of the word 'handicapped', feeling it may cause offence. She explained that they'd changed it when drawing up the town park bye-laws.

Cllr Tadhg O'Donovan suggested they substitute the word 'incapacitated' instead however, after further discussion, the matter was put to a vote by way of a show of hands and it was agreed to use the word 'disabled' instead.
