January can be a time for re-evaluation and reflection for many. Going a step further, one young Fermoy man decided to be proactive in an attempt to change his life, by applying to be one of six entrepreneurs whisked to the other side of the world as part of the ThisIsYourLifeChange.com project.
Brian Kidd (23) is among 1,400 people and counting, from 22 countries that have applied for an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity which will see them spend two weeks on the remote island of Vorovoro, Fiji. Here they will be pushed to their limits, meet with a life change coach, a personal trainer and a business coach, all in an attempt to change their life for the better.
“I really need to change my life,” Brian said this week. “Up until third year I was a straight A student but then I dropped out of school before my Junior Cert and since then people have been telling me I’m going to be nothing unless I get up and make myself something.”
The all-expenses paid trip to the sun-drenched island is the brainchild of Mark Bowness. As a former cleaner from England who has gone from attempting suicide to running ‘Life Change the Revolution’, he now wants to help other people reach their potential.
“They want people who really want to change their lives and want to do something. They want to bring them to Fiji, train them and bring them back to maybe start a business and from there on, start affecting other peoples lives positively,” according to Brian.
“You’ll be given a personal fitness coach, a life coach and a business coach and they’re going to push you beyond your limits, to make you a better person. To make you be what you’re supposed to be basically.”
Successful applicants will be given the chance to fulfil their ‘secret dream’, which may be a new business, a product you are keen to create or a charity you want to launch. For Brian, any such business would ideally create further employment in Fermoy. Overall the prize is worth €200,000.
Unsurprisingly, the organisers want to seek out those who are serious about this project, and those who are pro-active in their application stand a better chance of being selected. To this end, Brian has created a Facebook page – Send Brian to Fiji This Is Your Life Change – which keeps people updated on his application and his reasons for applying.
The closing date for applications is March 1, with the six chosen applicants jetting off to Fiji on March 23 until April 6. For more information on the project, visit thisisyourlifechange.com.
