The town of Fermoy had its first inspection for the Tidy Towns competition at the beginning of May and was described by the inspector as a 'clean town with approach roads to the town and housing estates to a large extent free from unsightly litter'.

John Murphy who is involved with the Tidy Towns and Anti-Litter groups told The Avondhu that he hopes the town will gain position in the top four again.

He appealed to people in residential areas and also traders to make an effort to put flowers outside, as it enhances areas and injects life and colour into places and he also encouraged people to tackle the black spots outlined in the first Fermoy Tidy Town Inspection report.
