Mass in Fermoy for ‘Blue Nuns’ following exhumation
At the final meeting of the Fermoy Electoral Area Committee in its current guise, members were updated on the Fermoy flood relief works and it was generally felt that they were progressing well and seemed to be on time and on budget.
Engineer Ger Barry outlined the main works that are yet to be carried out, while Cllr Frank O’Flynn commended all involved saying that the scheme seems ‘to be well on time and no doubt will be on budget’.
The wall at Ashe Quay is now completed and the roadway at this section to the youth centre is currently being constructed, with one layer of surfacing to be done this week. Kerbing and footpathing works are also taking place outside the youth centre.
Works associated with the proposed toilet block incorporating a tourist kiosk betweeing Ashe Quay, Abbey Street and Fermoy Bridge are also being progressed. Finishing works in this section will take place over the next two weeks, with footpath and surfacing works to take place in the next month.
Ger explained that there are currently no works in the area of the Fermoy Bridge crossing and that final works including footpath works are scheduled to start in June.
Councillors raised concerns about the Tallow Road, as some motorists, particularly drivers of trucks, had expressed fears that the road had become narrower. Ger Barry pointed out however, that the original road was very narrow, but now measuring from kerb to kerb it is slightly wider than it was previously, but may look deceptive.
He said that in terms of embankment works at Hawes on the N72 Tallow Road, works to raise the N72 are well advanced, surfacing works are progressing and works associated with the final stage of the embankment are also progressing.
The engineer was thanked by the councillors for his regular updates and all of the information which was given to councillors so that they could keep the public informed about the works and how they may affect them.
