Fermoy Christmas Lights switch on ‘will not go ahead’ unless new volunteers are secured

The annual Christmas light switch-on event in Fermoy cannot go ahead this year unless additional volunteers are secured, members of the organising committee have said.

A volunteer-run event, the switch-on is a highlight on the Fermoy calendar, however, this year has seen a question mark raised over the event as the committee is appealing for 30+ volunteers to come on board to steward the event and ensure its future.

Speaking with The Avondhu, chairman Cllr Noel McCarthy outlined that the growth of the annual switch-on has seen some health and safety issues arise, and unless a definite 30+ stewards and volunteers can be assured, the event will not go ahead.
