Fermoy awards to recognise sporting heroes and community volunteers

The return of the prestigious Fermoy Area Sports & Community Awards has been widely welcomed and is planned to be one of the biggest social events of the year.

The return of the prestigious Fermoy Area Sports & Community Awards has been widely welcomed and the organising committee, under the direction of local businessman, Joe Slattery, are busy planning for what promises to be one of the biggest social events of the year.

10 awards will be presented at this gala function which takes place in Corrin Event Centre on Saturday, November 8 - there will also be one overall winner on the night.

These awards are being held in association with Fermoy Enterprise Board and Fermoy Credit Union - the main sponsor is McCarthy Insurance Group.

Lending his support to the awards, chairman of Fermoy Enterprise Board, Michael Hanley described all those who will be nominated as 'unsung heroes' who make an immense contribution to their areas.

NOMINATIONS NOW BEING SOUGHT

Nominations are now being sought from interested individuals or groups in the Fermoy, Clondulane, Kilworth, Glanworth, Rathcormac, Castlelyons, Ballyhooly, Conna and Ballynoe catchment areas. Nomination forms are available from Barnes' Jewellers, Fermoy and Slattery Travel, Fermoy. The 10 categories are: sports team/club of the year; sports club person of the year; special needs category; young sports person of the year; female sports person of the year; male sports person of the year; hall of fame award; community group/organisation of the year; volunteer of the year and special merit award.

More event details and the identity of the guest speaker will be announced in the coming weeks.
