Fears have been raised for the future of festive lighting in the West Waterford towns of Tallow, Lismore, Cappoquin and Ballyduff amidst a controversy that saw a local electrician who has been in charge of Christmas lighting in Dungarvan for 29 years, lose his contract with Waterford County Council this year.

Director of Corporate and Cultural Services Kieran Kehoe, confirmed to councillors that contracts for festive lighting would be awarded to the company with the contract for all public lighting in future, and that the new rule would extend county-wide.
