Eurovision success eludes Mallow singer

Amy Cotter from Dromtarriff, who performed Rudimental's 'These Dreams' in the Junior Eurovision heats on TG4 on Sunday evening.

It was not to be for young Dromtarriff/Mallow singer Amy Cotter, who competed in the third heat of the Irish Junior Eurovision competition on Sunday evening. Broadcast on TG4, the 11-year-old singer was a contestant in the third heat of the competition.

Unfortunately, the young singer lost out on a place in the semi-final, but was commended for her performance of ‘These Days’ by Rudimental, sung in the Irish language.

Ellen McGloucghlin from Dublin went straight through to the semi-final with an as gaeilge version of ‘Perfect’ by Eddi Reader, where she was joined by Niamh Beatrix Smith after the sing-off, where she performed ‘Counting Stars’ by One Republic, as gaeilge.

The two young ladies will join Gillian Brennan, Liza O’Neill, Clare Keeley, and Jessica McKean in the semi-finals. Last year, the country was represented by 12-year-old Sophie Lennon from Newry, Co. Down.

She took to the Junior Eurovision stage in Yerevan, Armenia where she competed against 15 other countries with her Irish language song ‘Solas’; unfortunately, the victors in 2022 were France, with young Lissandro singin ‘Oh Mamam’.
