While there were many stories and memories swapped at the closing of the Castletownroche Dairygold branch on Friday, there was also a lot of sadness and anger being expressed by the 50 or so locals who were in attendance.

Many spoke of the 'invaluable facility' that the branch was and the huge loss it will be to farmers in the area as well as being a loss to other businesses in the village.

Speaking on the day, local farmer and North Cork IFA PRO Billy Cotter, said it felt ‘like a funeral’.
