Locals were ‘shocked’ to see a large amount of what appears to be construction related waste dumped at a scenic location near Barranafaddock Wind Farm in West Waterford.
Located between Ballyduff and Araglin, the materials were dumped along a popular walking spot near a gravel path in the scenic countryside. It is understood that this is the first time locals have come across illegal dumping of this scale in the area.
Several pieces of plywood and sheet wood, and other timbers, were discarded, along with rubble, plastic containers, a window frame and more items, all likely the resulting waste from a home renovation or building project.
Anybody paying an individual to dispose of rubbish should be aware that under Section 34 of the Waste Management Act 1996, anyone who proposes to collect waste (to take away and dispose of) for the purpose of reward, with a view to profit or otherwise, in the course of business is required to hold a Waste Collection Permit.
The materials in this instance are believed to have been dumped at the location within the last week and the scene has been described as ‘soul destroying’ by those living in the area. It is understood that the issue has been brought to the attention of Waterford City and County Council.
