The gardaí have released a warning to motorists on the M8 motorway to slow down or risk being nabbed by the North Cork roads policing unit.
A car was spotted speeding on the roadway at close to 200 kilometres per hour on Thursday and was stopped by a garda.
A garda spokesman said that a file will be prepared and the driver could face prosecution in court for dangerous driving.
“This motorist was detected travelling at 183 kilometres per hour on the M8 by a member of Fermoy Roads Policing Unit earlier today.
“In most cases a fine on the spot would be issued, but this driver may now be prosecuted for dangerous driving.
“Why risk your licence, your job or people’s lives to shave a minute or two off your journey? Please mind your speed – we don’t want to have to knock on your family’s door to give them that news.”
