Students from Nagle Rice secondary school in Doneraile have scooped the top prize at the regional final of the North Cork Schools Enterprise Programme. They were pronounced winners at an event in the Charleville Park Hotel on Friday last, March 1st.

The competition is part of the national Student Enterprise Awards and the Doneraile school team will now go on to represent North Cork at the national final in Croke Park on April 17th.

The winning team's business is called 'Butt Out Ltd.' The students produced a variety of anti-smoking products aimed at young people, including wristbands, rulers, pens, keyrings and pencil cases.

Teams from two Fermoy schools also featured among the prizewinners.  The entry 'We XSell' from St Colman's College won an award for best marketing and an award for best business reports went to 'Kiss & Make Up' from Loreto Secdonary School.

Schools in Mallow also took two awards. The entry 'Recall Wall' from Davis College won best marketing and Joanna Maloney from St Mary's Secondary School was named one of two most promising entrepreneurs in the competition.

The competition is designed to give students a taste of what it is like to be an entrepreneur, running their own business. They had to set up exhibition stands and give a 10-minute interview to a panel of judges comprising members of the local business community.
