Doggie dirt!

It is heartening to hear of calls for more frequent collections and a more stringent approach to persecuting offenders who continue to ignore when their dogs foul our footpaths and public areas.

Fermoy Tidy Towns’ group has also called for an increased number of receptacles to tackle the problem but that call should not be confined to Fermoy alone, but should be extended to every town and village.

The call that the bins in Fermoy should be emptied more often than once a fortnight, shows at least that the bins there are being used.

Parts of Mitchelstown for instance, can suffer terribly at times from dog fouling. Those attending a recent meeting in Fermoy were in agreement that if one or two people were to be fined for the offence, that would help to curb the problem which is not alone unsightly, but is also a health hazard.

The upcoming Gone Barking Mad event in Castlelyons, on Sunday, May 31, will further help promote responsible dog ownership and deserves support.

While the litter situation may be improving somewhat, the issue of dog fouling is certainly not!
