The chair of Mitchelstown GAA is making a plea to the public to show more care when walking their dogs in O’Connell Park, as dog-walkers create a serious risk to the health of young children who train at the pitch.

John Walsh told The Avondhu how on Tuesday evening this week, a young boy who was training slipped, and ended up with his jersey covered in dog waste.

The problem is not isolated and has been steadily getting worst as people leave their dogs inside the pitch boundary to go to the toilet.
