An elderly woman with mobility difficulties issued a heartfelt plea this week to motorists in Fermoy, to leave disabled parking spaces free for those who really need them.

The Castlelyons woman said on a number of occasions recently, during trips to Fermoy to shop and do business, she's been unable to find a space in any of the designated disabled places because they've been occupied by non-disabled motorists. She wishes they could see the difficulties that such situations causes people like her, who find it hard to get around.

The woman, who asked not to be named, has spoken with the traffic warden about it. She enquiried as to the best course of action to take and whether it would be advisable to leave notes on the cars of offending motorists. He advised of the fine that can be imposed on offenders caught parking in disabled spaces.
