The front facade of a building on Upper Cork street, Mitchelstown suddenly collapsed onto the pavement and street shortly before 6pm in the middle of rush hour on Wednesday, July 7, as The Avondhu went to press.
Miraculously, no injuries were reported and the building (No 49) was understood to be unoccupied at the time.
Emergency services were quick to arrive on scene, with Gardai cordoning off the site and two units of Mitchelstown Fire Brigade arriving shortly after. Traffic restrictions were put in place.
One local living nearby, who was in his home at the time that the upper front facade collapsed, stated that ‘the whole house started shaking’.
