The death has taken place of former fire station officer in Fermoy, John Langford. He died peacefully at Cork University Hospital on Sunday.

A native of Kilworth, the former Clancy Street resident is survived by his wife Mary (nee Daly) sons John and Gerard, brother Maurice, sister Maureen and daughter-in-law Patsy.

Removal took place on Wednesday evening from Ronayne's funeral home, to St Patrick's Church at 7.30pm. Fermoy firemen formed a guard of honour and the huge attendance demonstrated the esteem in which he was held by townspeople, his neighbours and his fire service colleagues.  Burial takes place after funeral Mass on this Thursday in Kilcrumper new cemetery.

John's son Gerard followed him into the fire service, working as a driver and mechanic. He retired in the summer after 30 years of similarly sterling service.
