The Lord sent his blessings ‘in abundance’ in the form of rain last Friday at Glenahulla NS, as the fine weather broke for one day as the school held a celebration to mark its 140th anniversary.

Bishop William Crean, assisted by Fr Thomas Lane, symbolically blessed the school’s newest additions, the carpark, new classroom and Astroturf pitch, during an hour-long celebration of how far the school has come since it was first established in its current location in 1884.

The ceremony opened with the pupils’ enthusiastic rendition of ‘Shine Jesus Shine’, and then the fifth and sixth class pupils gave a very comprehensive account of the school’s history and growth in a play penned by Mr Colm O’Brien, showing what Bishop Crean described as a perfect example of subsidiarity at work i.e. that groups ‘on the ground’ are better to function than a dominant central overseeing body.
