Last Saturday, 5-year-old, Darragh Collins from Kilworth had the honour of being mascot for the Munster rugby team for their match against Newport Gwent Dragons at Irish Independent Park.
The invitation came after he was filmed singing 'Stand up and fight' by his dad Brian in Thomand Park, when Munster played Edinburgh in January 2014. He sang his heart out completely unaware that it was being filmed.
This went viral reaching a host of clubs and got a tremendous reaction. It was also posted on the Munster web page. At the time his dream was to meet Paul O’Connell which he did but to top it off, he was asked to be the mascot for last Saturday’s home match.
Darragh who goes to Kilworth National School and is in Junior infants, is described as a Munster fanatic. His mother Lorna informs The Avondhu that he ‘knows each player by number, who scored what and who won man of the match. He goes to each game with his dad and it’s his dream to be a Munster player when he is bigger’.
In addition to being mascot and meeting all his heroes, the day was topped off for the young fan by the fact that his team scored 8 tries in a 50:27 victory over the Newport Gwent Dragons.
